In 2013, Silvermine Arts Center renamed its print collection, The Gabor Peterdi International Print Collection, in honor of the collections founder, Gabor Peterdi. Gabor was a Silvermine Guild Member, professor and noted artist. He felt it was necessary to preserve the history of printmaking and develop a collection that was available for both the appreciation of and education about this unique art form.
The permanent print collection began around 1960 through the acquisition of prints by means of the "juror purchase awards" associated with Silvermine's then National Print Biennial. In subsequent years, additional prints were added to the collection via donations and bequests.
At present, the collection consists of over 200 prints, due to the efforts of the many guild members who help chair the National Print Exhibition, along with collection stewardship of Gabor Peterdi, Carlus Dyer and James Reed. Within its holdings, the collection has fine examples of work by such renowned printmakers as Josef and Anni Albers, Lee Chesney, Robert Cottingham, Jack Damer,
Sergio Gonzalez-Tornero, Michael Mazur, Gabor Peterdi and Linda Plotkin.
