Patricia Hickson has been the Emily Hall Tremaine Curator of Contemporary Art at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut, since 2009. There, she oversees the contemporary art collection and acquisitions, organizes special exhibitions, and leads the MATRIX program, a series of changing solo exhibitions of contemporary art. Her MATRIX projects have included artists Mark Bradford, Dulce Chacón, Mark Dion, Shaun Gladwell, and Vanessa German. In 2015 she organized the exhibition Warhol & Mapplethorpe: Guise & Dolls, which included a publication by Yale University Press. Hickson previously held curatorial positions at the Des Moines Art Center, Williams College Museum of Art, San Jose Museum of Art, and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. Hickson earned a BA in art from Bates College and a MA in art history from Williams College.

Art of the Northeast is a competition/exhibition highlighting the diversity of work that is currently being made in the Northeast by emerging and established artists.The juror will have at his discretion the ability to select a suite of three to five works by an individual artist. The Best in Show Prize is a solo exhibition at Silvermine Arts Center with a $1,000 stipend for show related expenses. To be considered for the Best in Show Prize, artists are required to enter a minimum of three works. Eligibility: Open to all artists, 17 years of age and older, residing in CT, DE, MA, MD (D.C.), ME, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI & VT. Original artwork in any media will be accepted. Giclée reproductions of original works will not be accepted. Eligible artwork must have been completed after January 1, 2016, and fall within the restrictions.

Indoor or Outdoor Sculptures: Should not exceed 12’h x 4’w x 4’d including base. Outdoor sculpture will be placed in the Garden Gallery – just outside the main gallery.
Installations: Installations may not stipulate altering the character of the gallery wall or floor. Site-specific installations outside of the building will be considered with proper diagrams and a paragraph describing the project.

Sales & Liability Insurance:
All artwork must be for sale. A commission of 50% will be charged on all sales. Price of work may not be changed after it is submitted. SAC will insure all accepted work to 50% of artist’s stated retail price. Artwork will be handled with all possible care. Work that is not picked up by August 28, 2018, is no longer insured and is left at the artist’s own risk.
